Welcome to the Friends of Westlands Community Primary School.

All parents/carers of pupils at the school and school staff are automatically a part of FoWCPS and can become members of the committee! If you’re interested in joining us please contact us on pta@westlands.essex.sch.uk or join our facebook group Friends of Westlands Community Primary School.

Who are FoWCPS?

Our current committee is a small group of friendly and enthusiastic parent volunteers, who work closely with our staff representative to enhance the primary school experience of pupils at Westlands CPS. We aim to foster a sense of community and develop effective, co-operative relationships between parents/carers, staff, and others associated with the school.

Westlands CPS had a PTA for many years, which sadly fell dormant for a while due to Covid-19. A small group of parents resurrected the PTA in early 2023. With some very successful events under our belts, we’re now registering as a charity and have rebranded to the ‘Friends of Westlands Community Primary School’; we feel this better represents what our school community is about. Although still small in number, we’re delighted to have had some new members join us and we’re really excited to see what we can do for the school in the coming years.

What do we do?

We exist to enhance the primary school experience of pupils at Westlands CPS. We do this in a few ways:

  • Organising fun events such as discos, summer fairs and Christmas fairs which bring the school community together whilst raising money.
  • Organising other fundraising activities, such as arranging for pupils to design their own Christmas cards, for which we were able to earn commission on purchases, and clothes recycling collections for which we earn money per kilo donated.
  • Purchasing items needed by the school such as the new reading sheds in the playground or funding educational activities.
  • Contributing to activities that enrich the primary school experience, such as Year Six Leavers Events.

Since reforming in 2023 we have organised:

  • 2 discos
  • Summer Fair
  • ‘Festive Fun’ Christmas event
  • Bags2School clothes recycling collections
  • Pupil designed Christmas cards etc

We’ve funded:

  • Contribution to Year Six leavers events
  • 2 reading sheds for the playground
  • 2 tables with seating for the KS1 playground, to match those in the KS2 playground

Committee Members

The committee members in named roles, as voted in at our last AGM (Nov 2023) are:

Co-Chairs – Kerry Higgs and Sarah Sanderson

Treasurer – Lyndsay Smith

Secretary – Jo Flower

We’re delighted to now have an additional (small!) number of ordinary committee members and a pool of supportive volunteers – but we always need more! Our events can’t run without committee member and volunteer support, so if you can give any time, no matter how big or small, please get in touch as above.
